| Description: | Rowan Williams Post-Colonial Paternalism is Underlying Cause of Anglican Communion Angst News Analysis By David W. Virtue www.virtueonline.org 7/3/2008 The ink was barely dry on the Declaration coming out of GAFCON in Jerusalem, when the Archbishop of Canterbury wrote a letter to the Anglican world telling us, in no uncertain words, exactly what he thought. It was revelatory. Rowan Williams declared that certain things were not in dispute like the uniqueness of Jesus Christ, the imperative of evangelism and the common life of the Communion. All very commendable. But then, he went on a tear, blasting orthodox primates for "lacking legitimacy, authority and integrity", accusing them of breaking the "bonds of affection" and much more. more... |

| JERUSALEM: Forward in Faith NA deputation reflects on GAFCON | ||

| Description: | JERUSALEM: Forward in Faith NA deputation reflects on GAFCON A LETTER FROM JERUSALEM from the Representatives of Forward in Faith, North America to the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) June 29th, 2008 Eleven years ago, Forward in Faith, North America (FiF NA), called for the formation of an orthodox Anglican Province in North America. Today, its representatives took part in the beginning of that goal's fulfillment as GAFCON declared "the time is now ripe for the formation of a province in North America for the federation currently know as the Common Cause Partnership". GAFCON's call for its Primates' Council to recognize the new province is the fruit of long and hard work by many over many years. But FiF NA was the first to call for the creation of a province, and has worked diligently for it, even when other conservative bodies had not yet come to support that step. more... |

| ENGLAND: Time to come out of the liberal closet on gay clergy, Archbishop | ||

| Description: | ENGLAND: Time to come out of the liberal closet on gay clergy, Archbishop If Rowan Williams continues to claim moral superiority to politicians, he must be honest on this issue by George Walden The Times http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/guest_contributors/article4257699.ece July 3, 2008 The crisis in the Church of England over homosexuality is a personal one for the Archbishop of Canterbury himself. Whether you are a supporter or not, a Christian or a non-believer, it is increasingly clear - as the threat of schism over homosexuality and women priests intensifies - that the leader of the Established Church is in a false position. Dr Rowan Williams portrays himself as radically inclined, yet on homosexuality he has aligned himself with a conservative cause. more... |

Canon Gregory Cameron, the top canon lawyer who helps run the headquarters of the worldwide Anglican Communion, also criticised the "dark side" of western Anglicanism which assumes superiority over Anglicans in the developing world. more... |

| Canadian Primate responds to GAFCON statement | ||
| Published: | Wed, 2 Jul 2008 16:50:00 -0400 | |
| Description: | Canadian Primate responds to GAFCON statement July 2, 2008 What follows is a statement by Archbishop Fred Hiltz, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, in response to the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) statement issued in Jerusalem last weekend. The Gospel of God in Christ is faithfully proclaimed by Canadian Anglicans today just as it has been by generations who have gone before us. I believe it is important to state this truth in response to the recent statement from the GAFCON gathering in Jerusalem, which suggests otherwise. The GAFCON statement is based on a premise that there is "acceptance and promotion within the provinces of the Anglican Communion of a different gospel which is contrary to the apostolic gospel." The statement specifically accuses Anglican churches in the Canada and the United States of proclaiming this "false gospel that has paralysed the Communion." I challenge and repudiate this charge. more... |

| Description: | LONDON: Gafcon can save Anglicanism Op-Ed in The Guardian By Chris Sugden http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/jul/02/religion.anglicanism July 2, 2008 We are a response to the current authorities' unwillingness to check the flouting of Bible teachings and can lead it forward without a split For five years, the Episcopal church in US, the Anglican church of Canada, and elements of the Church of England and church in New Zealand have acted precisely like the student unions of the 1970s and Militant tendency in putting facts on the ground and defying the authorities to do anything about it. Some bishops and others have been presenting a different Christian gospel, expressed in disobedience to the teaching of the Bible, and continue to persecute and harass those who resist and object. more... |

| Description: | LONDON: Church of England crisis: Mass defections loom as rebel faction appeals to English clergy Hundreds may be ready to leave Church of England Traditionalists' conference swamped by 750 delegates by Riazat Butt, religious affairs correspondent The Guardian July 2 2008 Hundreds of English clergy appear poised to defect from the Church of England to join a new conservative movement after a conference led by rebel archbishops was swamped with delegates in London yesterday. The 750 delegates attending the meeting in central London were asked to pledge their allegiance to a 14-point manifesto issued last weekend in Jerusalem by the Global Anglican Future Conference (Gafcon), a coalition of traditionalist clergy who have challenged the authority of the archbishop of Canterbury. more... |

| Description: | NEW YORK: Presiding Bishop responds to GAFCON statement June 30, 2008 [Episcopal News Service] Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori has responded to the Global Anglican Future Conference with the following statement. Much of the Anglican world must be lamenting the latest emission from GAFCON. Anglicanism has always been broader than some find comfortable. This statement does not represent the end of Anglicanism, merely another chapter in a centuries-old struggle for dominance by those who consider themselves the only true believers. Anglicans will continue to worship God in their churches, serve the hungry and needy in their communities, and build missional relationships with others across the globe, despite the desire of a few leaders to narrow the influence of the gospel. We look forward to the opportunities of the Lambeth Conference for constructive conversation, inspired prayer, and relational encounters. The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori Presiding Bishop and Primate The Episcopal Church more... |
